He Is Risen! Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-97He Is Risen! Scripture Pictures

The Scripture Pictures Team wish you a blessed Easter!

On this resurrection Easter Sunday, may we meditate upon Isaiah 53:4-5:

Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows…He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by his wounds we are healed.

One of the elders at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood, Brett Elliot, wrote a poignant Easter meditation:

“…I’ve come to view the cross another way. Just as a cross is the physical intersection of horizontal and vertical beams, it can also be seen as the intersection of Spirit and humanity. Marcus Borg writes, ‘If Jesus is the once and for all sacrifice for sin…it means that God has already taken care of whatever it is that we think separates us from God.'”

“In this light, Jesus’ terrible and wonderful sacrifice represents the coming together of God and man. The cross binds us to our Source. The cross tells us there are no longer any barriers between God and us. We may feel we are surrounded by sin and far from God, but the cross reminds us that God conceived, created, and accepts us – each of us – exactly as we are.

Rise Up Today: Scripture Pictures

The Scripture Pictures Team want to share today’s Daily Devotion, Today’s Word, from Joel Osteen called:

Rise Up Today!

Today’s Scripture: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” (Romans 9:17, NIV)

Easter is a wonderful time to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ — that glorious event that changed history over 2,000 years ago. But, did you know that God is still in the resurrection business today? When you receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you become born again. Your spirit is resurrected so you that you can have a personal relationship with God.

Not only does He want to resurrect your spirit, He wants to resurrect your dreams, your hopes, your relationships and every area of your life! Today, call on Him and allow Him to display His resurrection power through you!

We love you and rejoice with you as we celebrate the resurrected life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!”

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry in a very remote area of Utah. Henry says, “My wife and I trekked for miles until we suddenly discovered this incredible sight. The cloud reminds me of 1Thessalonians 4:17 that says – ‘…we who are still alive and are left will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever’.” This shot is a powerful testimony of God’s promise for the end times.

First Christian Church of North Hollywood: Easter

What’s “cooking” at the 5:30 PM Easter Sunday service at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood?

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team are cooking – that’s what!

Patti is making an Easter snack of home-baked ham (made the old-fashioned way with all the trimmings), baked sweet potatoes made from scratch, and a mid-western green bean casserole.

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team will also serve french bread with spinach and artichoke cheese spread, topped with fresh basil from a live plant. We’ll have fresh veggies and dip and fresh fruit, too.

Dessert will be an array of fresh goodies. Rumor has it that Patti will be baking pies….

Please show up at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood about 10 minutes early before the Sunday service starts at 5:30 PM so Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team  can welcome you – and to enjoy the food. You are welcome to take food home with you, too.

Happy Easter to you and yours!

In His Love,

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team

May God Comfort You at This Time

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry near Joshua Tree National Park in California at sunrise. The dramatic contrast between the silhouette of the jagged, worn Joshua tree and the dawning of a new morning are symbolic of God’s sovereign power to comfort us through all circumstances. Patti says, “This photo reminds me of the Easter miracle – the darkness of the mountains symbolizes Christ’s crucifixion, and the sunrise symbolizes His glorious resurrection from the grave.”

Blood is Still There Scripture Pictures

On this Easter weekend, the Scripture Pictures Team has been focusing on the power of the blood of Jesus.

One of Patti and Henry’s favorite songs is called, The Blood is Still There.

Here’s a YouTube Link to it, as sung by Kevin Spencer.

The Scripture Pictures Team posted the lyrics below, so you can sing along with it.

This song reminds us in a powerful way, that no matter the trials, tribulations and battles that we face, the blood of Jesus is still there to protect, restore and deliver us!

The Blood is Still There

One Dark Night In Egypt
A Fearful Time Had Come
For One Little Hebrew Boy
Who Was His Father’s First Born Son
Now With The Angel Of Death Passing Low
It Was Hard To Fall Asleep
But One Little Lamb Stood In His Mind
As He Laid There Counting Sheep
He Wondered Why The Lamb Had To Die
Why His Blood Was On The Door
Through The Wind And Rain
It Had Still Remained
But He Wanted To Be Sure
So He Called Out To His Earthly Father
With A Trembling Voice So Scared
Crying Father Will You Please Look And See
If The Blood Is Still There
He Said Son Now Don’t You Worry
For The Blood Is There To Stay
The Wind May Blow And The Rain May Fall
But It Won’t Just Wash Away
The Blood Will Stand The Raging Storm
It’s Been Applied With Loving Care
Safe Secured You Can Rest Assured
That The Blood Is Still There
Looking Over The Damage
Satan’s Storm Had Left Behind
The Flood Of Endless Questions
Now Had Filled My Life
The Fear That Gripped My Troubled Soul
Brought Me Back To My Knees In Prayer
Crying Father Will You Please Look And See
If The Blood Is Still There
He Said Son Now Don’t You Worry
For The Blood Is There To Stay
The Wind May Blow And The Rain May Fall
But It Won’t Just Wash Away
The Blood Will Stand The Raging Storm
It’s Been Applied With Loving Care
Safe Secured You Can Rest Assured
That The Blood Is Still
There Safe Secured You Can Rest Assured
That The Blood Is Still There

From the end of the earth I will cry to You. When my heart is overwhelmed, Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Blood of Jesus: Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-96Blood of Jesus: Scripture Pictures

Only the Blood of Jesus

Only the blood of Jesus,
Only His nail scarred hand,
Can wash a soul white as snow…
Creating a brand new man.

Only the blood of Jesus,
The Lamb of God from above,
Can remove all sin and stain…
Oh, what mercy, grace and love!

Only the blood of Jesus,
Can reach the deep sins concealed,
Touching each and every spot…
It’s by His stripes we’re healed.

Only the blood of Jesus,
Applied to a contrite heart,
Can change a soul’s destiny…
And eternal life impart.

Praise God for that precious blood,
Flowing from heaven to earth,
A stream of cleansing power…
That redeems and gives new birth.

Maundy Thursday – Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-55Maundy Thursday – Scripture Pictures

What is Maundy Thursday?

Maundy Thursday is on April 2, 2015.

Maundy Thursday is also known as “Holy Thursday,” because it is the Thursday of the Passion Week. It is just one day before Good Friday.

Maundy Thursday is the name given to the day in which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples. This is also referred to as the Last Supper.

Two important events are the commemorated on Maundy Thursday.

First, Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples, which is also known as Communion (see Luke 22:19-20). Some churches hold a special Communion service on Maundy Thursday in memory of Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples.

Second, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet as an act of humility. He set an example that we should  serve each other with humility (see John 13:3-17). Some churches hold a foot-washing ceremony on Maundy Thursday to role model Jesus’ washing the feet of His disciples.

The Scripture Pictures Team want to invite you to attend the Maundy Thursday service on April 2nd at 7 PM at our church, the First Christian Church of North Hollywood. It is located at the corner of Colfax and Moorpark.

Double the Honor!

Instead of your shame, you will have double the honor…and everlasting joy will be yours.

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry under an old, abandoned bridge “that leads to nowhere” close to an isolated strip of beach near Ventura, California. The rushing ocean surf reminds me of God’s power to cleanse us of our shame and replace it with His overflowing joy.

The Maundy Thursday service will be held in the church’s social hall.

Communion will be served at this service. It is the policy of the First Christian Church of North Hollywood to invite everyone to receive communion. You do not need to be a member of the church.

The Maundy Thursday service at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood is typically a small, intimate gathering of believers. It is a precious way to usher in Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Third Day: Scripture Pictures

scripture-pictures-98Third Day: Scripture Pictures

Jesus died a criminal’s death on a cross for our sins. His was crucified between two thieves.

One of the thieves mocked Jesus and told him that if He were truly the messiah, then He should get down from the cross and save Himself.

But the other thief accepted Jesus as His savior, as they both lay dying on the cross. Jesus told this thief, “Today, you will be with Me in Paradise.”

The Christian group, Third Day wrote a song about this experience called, Thief.

The Scripture Pictures Team have attached a link to the music video and have posted the lyrics below.

Patti of the Scripture Pictures Team says: “Third Day’s song, Thief, is one of the most powerful of songs I have ever heard about the crucifixion of Christ. It tells the Easter account in a poignant way from the eyes of the thief who turned his life over to Jesus while they were both being crucified.”

Please take a few minutes and listen to this song.

The Scripture Pictures Team believes this song, Thief, by Third Day, will give you a deeper understanding of Calvary.

 “Thief”

I am a thief, I am a murderer
Walking up this lonely hill
What have I done? I don’t remember
No one knows just how I feel
and I know that my time is coming soon.
It’s been so long. Oh, such a long time
Since I’ve lived with peace and rest
Now I am here, my destination
guess things work for the best
and I know that my time is coming soon
Who is this man? This man beside me
They call the King of the Jews
They don’t believe that He’s the Messiah
But, somehow I know it’s true.
And they laugh at Him in mockery,
and beat Him till he bleeds
They nail Him to the rugged cross,
and raise Him, they raise Him up next to me
My time has come, I’m slowly fading
I deserve what I receive
Jesus when You are in Your kingdom
Could You please remember me
and He looks at me still holding on
the tears fall from His eyes
He says I tell the truth
Today, you will live with Me in paradise
and I know that my time is coming soon
and I know paradise is coming soon.

Jesus took the nails for us.

Colossians 2:13-14: And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

This photo of Henry holding a huge nail is a poignant tribute to the ultimate sacrifice by Jesus Christ of His crucifixion and death on the cross so that we might live forever with Him. The Easter miracle culminates in Jesus’ glorious resurrection on the third day. This photo is not just for Easter – His saving grace applies every day in our lives.

Christian Recovery: Scripture Pictures

Millions of Christians who struggle with addictions live an Easter-like experience, as they choose to “die” to their addictions, one day at a time, and allow Christ to “resurrect” them through Christ-centered sobriety and recovery.

While some Christians have been instantly delivered from the bondage of substance abuse, many others work on being clean and sober “just for today”, step-by-step, one moment at a time.

The entire Scripture Pictures Team hope that the photos in our Addiction section will inspire you and your loved ones to seek recovery through the restoration power of Jesus Christ. Here is one photo from this section called:

Jesus Sets Us Free; Free Indeed!

Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Therefore, if the son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:32 & 36

This photo offers visual affirmation of God’s magnificence and His power to set us free from addiction. Only God can turn our tragedies into testimonies.
