Henry and I have a family tradition of attending the 11 PM candlelight service on Christmas Eve.
We love to welcome the first light of Christmas morning by being at church on Christmas Eve.
What do I like most about the Christmas Eve candlelight service? I love the…
- warm, cozy glow of the candles
- rows of bright red poinsettias
- decorated wreaths made from pine
- receiving communion from the pastors
- hearing the choir sing Christmas carols
- listening to the pastor’s wisdom
- hugging everybody in church
But most of all, Henry and I love celebrating the birthday of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
“Behold, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel – which, when translated, means, God with us.” (Matthew 1:23, AMP)
This verse reminds me that God is always with us – even when we feel far from Him.

P.S. Here is a photo of the ending of our Christmas Eve service, just a few minutes into Christmas morning. If you look carefully, you can see people carrying their candles as they leave the church. (Please click on image for larger view.)
