Struggling with forgiveness?

Here is what Joel Osteen writes about forgiveness in his daily devotional on September 3rd:

Forgive Others

“As followers of Christ, our character should mirror His character. We should be helpful, kind and tender, understanding and loving to one another. Most of all, we should be extending forgiveness in the same way that Christ extends forgiveness toward us. In other words, we need to forgive unconditionally. But many times, people say they won’t forgive until the other person says they are sorry. Or, they won’t forgive because they think somehow they are getting that person back.                                                                                But the only person who is hurt by your unforgiveness is you! When you hold unforgiveness, it blocks God’s forgiveness and keeps you locked up in the hurt and pain.”

For a larger view, click on the Scripture Pictures photo of Isaiah 61:7 called: “Double the Honor!”

Instead of your shame, you will have double the honor…and everlasting joy will be yours.

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry under an old, abandoned bridge “that leads to nowhere” close to an isolated strip of beach near Ventura, California. The rushing ocean surf reminds Henry of God’s power to heal us of our shame and open our hearts to forgiveness of others.

Christian Recovery Gifts: Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-2Christian Recovery Gifts: Scripture Pictures

The holidays can be very difficult times for people in recovery from drugs, alcohol, and other addictions. Scripture Pictures want to acknowledge our brothers-and- sisters-in-Christ who are in recovery this holiday season.

Why are holidays so challenging for people in recovery? Here are 4 reasons why:

1. Sad or traumatizing memories from the past, including childhood issues of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

2. Current struggles, hardships and conflicts.

3. Fears, anxieties, and worries about the future.

4. Holiday parties with alcohol and drug use, and other temptations that can trigger relapse.

Looking for Christian Recovery gifts?

Scripture Pictures has a section of Scripture Pictures photos for our brothers-and- sisters-in-Christ who are in recovery. Of course, any of our Scripture Pictures photos make wonderful Christian Recovery gifts.

Patti’s dad was an alcoholic. He had PTSD from World War II as a medic on an aircraft carrier. He started drinking while he was in the Navy. So, recovery is very near to Patti’s heart and soul.

In Christ Love,

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team invite you to attend the Sunday 5:30 PM service at their church – the First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH).

They are on the Hospitality Committee and serve food every Sunday at the 5:30 PM service.

This Sunday, December 13, 2015, is very special because the First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH) will be saying good-bye to their beloved Youth Pastor, Justin Floyd.

Pastor Justin is involved in almost every aspect of the church. He is loved by everyone! He has a special calling for our youth.

He will preach the sermon this Sunday, December 13, 2015, at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH). His sermons are always memorable, as he mixes humor, sports stories and God’s love all together into something wonderful.

Please join us all in saying good-bye to him this Sunday.

And here’s a photo of the type of the cheese quiche that Henry and Patti will be serving. It has bacon, mushroom, and various peppers. And there will be a lovely table of food for the 5:30 PM Sunday service – just look to your left as you enter the Social Hall.

In Christ’s Love,

FCCNH: Prayer Vigil for Peace 12/09/15

Scripture-Pictures-42FCCNH: Prayer Vigil for Peace 12/09/15

Scripture Pictures attended our church’s Prayer Vigil for Peace tonight at the First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH) in honor of the people who were killed by a terrorist attack in Redlands (California) and in Paris.

For those of you who were not able to make it tonight, Scripture Pictures wants to “bring the prayer vigil” to you.

The First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH) set up prayer stations outside & inside the Prayer chapel & had a guide for each station. You can do these same steps at home:

First Christian Church of North Hollywood (FCCNH) Prayer Stations:

Faith: Pray for those who carry the burden of bringing and keeping peace. Spend time praying for all the different people working for peace. Try to imagine the burdens they carry. We then placed a rock at the foot of the church’s Peace Pole. (Henry will take a photo of this Peace Pole and we will post it soon – more information coming up!) The rock symbolizes the weight that leaders carry, as they work toward peace. By placing the rock at the foot of the Peace Pole, it represents giving those burdens to God.

HopePray for those who suffer and mourn today. Light a candle to  remember the 14 people who were killed in San Bernardino last week. Pray that the God of all Hope will bring light to the lives of all who mourn.

Love: Pray for peace and beauty. Read and reflect on the words of Isaiah 61:1-7. Choose specific nations and pray for peace. Take a rose petal as a symbol of your trust that God can bring beauty and joy to those nations in the place of the ashes of death and destruction.

Vision: Pray for clear vision of how we might be workers of peace. Stand in front of a mirror and gaze at your own reflection. Understand that peace begins with one person. Ask God how you can make a difference.

Sharing: Pray that we may be able to hear and share one another’s stories. Write, draw, or express your questions, your reflections or your own feelings about what’s happening in our world. Where do you see God in the midst of your living?

God bless all of you!

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team

Henry shot this Scripture Pictures photo in s small sea cave near Hana in Maui, Hawaii. He added the inspirational quote, “Don’t quit 5 minutes before the miracle” because he feels the cave represents how some of us need a miracle in our lives and our close to “being swept away” by our pain. But God has plans to deliver us from our pain and love us through the storms of our lives.

Scriptures for an Attitude of Gratitude

Scripture-Pictures-52Scriptures for an Attitude of Gratitude

As Christians, we’re called to be thankful in all situations. Although we may not have power over many of the events that happen in our lives, we still have the choice to respond to situations with a bitter spirit or a grateful heart.

Some Biblical quotes on gratitude include:

Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Ways to  increase our personal gratitude:

– Start a daily gratitude journal by listing 3 things you are grateful to have in your life.

– Send a note to your pastors thanking them specifically for how they minister to you.

– Write an e-mail or text to thank  five people who have impacted your life.

– Volunteer in your community and observe how  people are thankful for what little they have.

In His Footsteps,

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team
