Blood of Jesus: Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-96Blood of Jesus: Scripture Pictures

Only the Blood of Jesus

Only the blood of Jesus,
Only His nail scarred hand,
Can wash a soul white as snow…
Creating a brand new man.

Only the blood of Jesus,
The Lamb of God from above,
Can remove all sin and stain…
Oh, what mercy, grace and love!

Only the blood of Jesus,
Can reach the deep sins concealed,
Touching each and every spot…
It’s by His stripes we’re healed.

Only the blood of Jesus,
Applied to a contrite heart,
Can change a soul’s destiny…
And eternal life impart.

Praise God for that precious blood,
Flowing from heaven to earth,
A stream of cleansing power…
That redeems and gives new birth.

Deliverance

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.

This Scripture Pictures photo of a wooden cross was taken alongside a remote mountain road. Henry says, “It reminds me of God’s deliverance from any situation – no matter how dire, dangerous, or impossible it might seem.” This photo is an excellent image to encourage anyone who is seeking deliverance or wants to give praise to the Lord for His deliverance power.

Third Day: Scripture Pictures

scripture-pictures-98Third Day: Scripture Pictures

Jesus died a criminal’s death on a cross for our sins. His was crucified between two thieves.

One of the thieves mocked Jesus and told him that if He were truly the messiah, then He should get down from the cross and save Himself.

But the other thief accepted Jesus as His savior, as they both lay dying on the cross. Jesus told this thief, “Today, you will be with Me in Paradise.”

The Christian group, Third Day wrote a song about this experience called, Thief.

The Scripture Pictures Team have attached a link to the music video and have posted the lyrics below.

Patti of the Scripture Pictures Team says: “Third Day’s song, Thief, is one of the most powerful of songs I have ever heard about the crucifixion of Christ. It tells the Easter account in a poignant way from the eyes of the thief who turned his life over to Jesus while they were both being crucified.”

Please take a few minutes and listen to this song.

The Scripture Pictures Team believes this song, Thief, by Third Day, will give you a deeper understanding of Calvary.

 “Thief”

I am a thief, I am a murderer
Walking up this lonely hill
What have I done? I don’t remember
No one knows just how I feel
and I know that my time is coming soon.
It’s been so long. Oh, such a long time
Since I’ve lived with peace and rest
Now I am here, my destination
guess things work for the best
and I know that my time is coming soon
Who is this man? This man beside me
They call the King of the Jews
They don’t believe that He’s the Messiah
But, somehow I know it’s true.
And they laugh at Him in mockery,
and beat Him till he bleeds
They nail Him to the rugged cross,
and raise Him, they raise Him up next to me
My time has come, I’m slowly fading
I deserve what I receive
Jesus when You are in Your kingdom
Could You please remember me
and He looks at me still holding on
the tears fall from His eyes
He says I tell the truth
Today, you will live with Me in paradise
and I know that my time is coming soon
and I know paradise is coming soon.

Jesus took the nails for us.

Colossians 2:13-14: And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

This photo of Henry holding a huge nail is a poignant tribute to the ultimate sacrifice by Jesus Christ of His crucifixion and death on the cross so that we might live forever with Him. The Easter miracle culminates in Jesus’ glorious resurrection on the third day. This photo is not just for Easter – His saving grace applies every day in our lives.

The Abundant Life: Scripture Pictures

The Abundant Life: Scripture Pictures

One of the most popular verses in the Bible is John 10:10 where Jesus says: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (NKJV).

In John 10:10, Jesus compares what He has to offer us – abundant life – versus what the enemy gives us.

The “thief” Jesus refers to in this verse is Satan, the enemy of our soul. According to Jesus’ own words, Satan’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy us. In contrast, Jesus came not just so we might have life, but to have life more abundantly.

The choice is clear: abundant life with Jesus, or destruction and death via the enemy.

But what does the abundant life mean?

Pastor Greg Laurie, one of our favorite pastors, wrote about the abundant life on his website called, Oneplace.com (http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/a-new-beginning/read/articles/abundant-life-10479.html). Here is an excerpt:

“Campus Crusade for Christ’s tract, The Four Spiritual Laws, opens with the statement, “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.” And that is true. On the other hand, Satan hates you and has a horrible plan for your life. Now, he doesn’t really broadcast this, because he doesn’t want you to know. But what he ultimately wants to do is steal, kill, and destroy.

In contrast, Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” The context of John 10 is that of a shepherd and his sheep, where Jesus is the Shepherd, while we are the sheep. But we are reminded that Jesus is not just our Shepherd; He is the good shepherd. It is important to know that the word used here for “good” doesn’t just mean morally good, though it includes that. It also could be translated “beautiful” or “winsome” or “lovely,” even “attractive.” Jesus is the beautiful, attractive, winsome Shepherd, and the Shepherd’s plan for His flock — more specifically, the Lord’s plan for you — is that your life would flourish. It is His absolute joy to bless you.

Sometimes we have a false concept of God in which we see Him as One who is stingy with His blessings. But nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that God wants to bless you even more than you want to be blessed.

The abundant life that John 10:10 speaks of is not necessarily a long life, though it may be, but it certainly is a full one. Medical science seeks to add years to our lives, but only Jesus can add life to our years. Having been both an unbeliever and a believer, having been someone who was under the devil’s plan for my life and then discovering the Lord’s plan for my life, there is no question that living the life that God wants me to live is the best life.”

Henry, Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team hope you enjoyed Pastor Greg Laurie’s description of the abundant life that Jesus offers.

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage: I have overcome the world.”

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry of Bora Bora from a helicopter with the doors removed. Henry says, “The pilot duct-taped my wife and I into the helicopter so we wouldn’t fall out!” This shot offers a compelling visual testimony of God’s splendor and is a reminder of the abundant life that He offers us.

Eyes of Jesus- Scripture Pictures

Scripture-Pictures-95Eyes of Jesus- Scripture Pictures

The Eyes of Jesus
I imagine the eyes of Jesus
Were harvest brown,
The light of their gazing
Suffused with the seasons:
The shadow of winter,
The mind of spring,
The blues of summer,
And amber of harvest.
A gaze that is a perfect sister
To the kindness that dwells in His beautiful hands.
The eyes of Jesus gaze on us, stirring in the heart’s clay
The confidence of seasons that never lose their way to the harvest.
This gaze knows the signature of our heartbeat,
The first glimmer from the dawn that dreamed our minds,
The crevices where thoughts grow long before the longing in the bone sends them toward the mind’s eye,
The artistry of the emptiness that knows to slow the hunger of outside things until they weave into the twilight side of the heart,
A gaze full of all that is still future looking out for us to glimpse the jeweled light in winter stone,
Quickening the eyes that look at us to see through to where words are blind to say what we would love,
Forever falling softly on our faces, his gaze plies the soul with light,
laying down a luminous layer,
Beneath our brief and brittle days until the appointed dawn comes
assured and harvest deft
To unravel the last black knot and we are back home in the house that we have never left.

Do you like butterflies?

Patti and the Scripture Pictures Team has been blogging lately about the butterfly photos that Henry has taken from all over the world.

Here is another Scripture Pictures photo of a grouping of butterflies. The photo is inscribed with John 3:16 and is called:

God So Loved Me

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

This photo was taken by Henry through a storefront window in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. Henry added butterfly shots that he had taken in Costa Rica amd Belize. The “mysterious” reflection is from a building across the courtyard. Henry says, “I didn’t even realize that when I took the photo, I got a reflection of the building that was behind me. God had the sunlight just at the right angle to get the shadow of the building from across the courtyard.”

You can find this photo on the Shop Page under the New Testament category in John.

Butterflies can have a symbolic meaning to Christians, as the transformation or metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly has been compared to the Christian conversion or transformation called metanoia.

Metanoia is a Greek word that means a transformative change of heart – in particular,  a spiritual conversion.

This Christian conversion is described in 2 Corinthians 5:17:

“So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.”

As we are about to enter this Easter season, may we all reflect upon the transformative power of Jesus with His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

As the seemingly “dead” caterpillar emerges from his cocoon and transforms into a glorious butterfly, Jesus was crucified and laid in a tomb – only to ascend into Heaven so that we may have eternal life.

Please click on the Scripture Pictures photo of Psalm 28:7 called: The Lord is My Shield

“The Lord is my strength and my shield: My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.”

This Scripture Pictures photo is in the Hope and Inspiration category on the Home Page  in the “Encouragement” section.

This Scripture Pictures photo was taken by Henry at a fundraiser in Los Angeles for rescue animals. Henry added butterfly shots that he has taken from around the world. It is a thought-provoking image with the contrast between the ruggedness of the tiger and the gentleness of the butterflies.
